Skydiving simulator FAQ
Short, factual answers to the most common questions.
Can a simulator replace skydiving training?
No. Simulation complements training supervised by qualified instructors; it does not replace it. It prepares and reinforces skills that must then be validated in real conditions.
Is a wind tunnel a simulator?
A vertical wind tunnel reproduces freefall lift in a real airflow. It is often called a freefall simulator, but it is real flight in a tunnel, limited to the freefall phase.
What do you practise in a VR canopy simulator?
Mainly orientation, the landing pattern, wind management and landing, as well as decision-making under an open canopy.
Can I train alone on a simulator?
Training use requires supervision: objectives, observation and debriefing. Without them, there is a risk of reinforcing bad habits.
Are simulator sessions recognised in a training syllabus?
That depends on the rules of each federation or authority. Check directly with them.
What are the risks of virtual reality?
Some users experience discomfort (nausea, disorientation). Manufacturers and schools define usage guidelines that must be followed.
How should a club or school choose a device?
Start from your learning objectives, then assess fidelity, instructor tools, required infrastructure, maintenance and total cost. The buying guide details these criteria.
Does this site recommend manufacturers?
No. This is an editorial site with no commercial partnership with simulator manufacturers.
